Strawberry Salsa

Strawberry Salsa

Here’s the fourth recipe in this year’s Strawberry Week: Strawberry Salsa. Don’t be misled: this is not savory. This is like a dessert salsa, great with a spoon and amazing as a topping. I’d even assume it’s good in some savory concoctions, but I’m just not that adventurous, so I’ll never know. /shakes fist in Autism

Serving suggestion: make some cookies out of refrigerated pie crust coated in turbinado sugar, or sweet tortilla chips. I’m not a fan of cinnamon and strawberry together, but if you like that, Siete’s Churro Strips are AMAZING.

Strawberry Salsa Ingredients

Feel free to jump to the full recipe, but here are useful notes about the ingredients you will need to make this Strawberry Salsa recipe:

  • Strawberries: The star of the show! Use fresh ones. Frozen berries will not work here. We want the slight crunch, the firm bite of fresh berries in our Strawberry Salsa.
  • Blood oranges, limes: I call for blood orange juice and lime juice in the recipe card below, but I want to note that it’s important they are fresh squeezed. Freshness is the name of the game here. If you can’t find blood oranges that’s alright: use whatever orange you can find. Just make sure it’s ripe and you squeeze it yourself.
  • Agave nectar: You might find it labeled as agave syrup. Light or dark doesn’t matter here, but I use light, if you care. It both balances and compliments the flavors of the berries and citrus so well, yet doesn’t overpower anything. If you’d like your Strawberry Salsa sweeter, just increase how much you use.
  • Fresh mint: Mint gives the salsa a lil’ zip; a brightness.

How to Make Strawberry Salsa

Full instructions are included in the recipe below, but here is a basic overview of what you’ll need to do, along with some important tidbits to help you make the most of this Strawberry Salsa recipe:

  • Prepare for Strawberry Salsa. I am adamant that you want to use freshly squeezed juices here. Whether you use blood oranges or regular oranges, squeeze it yourself. It truly makes all the difference, and you want this Strawberry Salsa to taste as bright and fresh as possible.
  • Make the Salsa! In a mixing bowl, stir together the strawberries, mint, blood orange and lime juice. Once all the berries are coated, drizzle in the agave nectar. Toss to distribute throughout the salsa. Give it a taste, and add more agave as desired. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours, to allow the flavors to marry. Dassit!
